WCU PLACED ON BRIEF LOCKDOWN

William Carey University officials placed the Hattiesburg campus on lockdown status for a short time on Wednesday, Oct. 25, after an incident was reported.

Students, faculty, and staff were instructed to shelter in place. WCU is thankful to the Hattiesburg Police Department and Forrest County Sheriff’s Department, which responded immediately and worked with university officials to ensure everyone’s safety.

The incident that prompted the lockdown occurred on a public street in front of a William Carey building. The HPD’s investigation ended quickly with the arrest of the suspects.

As a precaution, additional security has been authorized until further notice.

Sue Note:

Hopefully in the future, the public will receive timely information from the Police Department.  Our hearts are broken

for the families of the victims.  Continued prayers for our citizens and city.
