On March 27, 2014, at approximately 10:16 PM, a 911 call to the Magee Police Department was received stating that someone had been shot in the parking lot at Park Place Apartments in Magee.

The victim has been identified as Erin Lee Barber (21 Years of Age). The shooter, Maurice Chevalia James, (20 years of age) is in custody at the Magee Police Department on a charge of Possession of a Stolen Firearm and an old warrant of simple assault.

Simpson County Coroner Terry Tudor pronounced Barber deceased at the scene.
Preliminary investigation reveals that an altercation occurred in Covington County and shortly thereafter escalated and ended up in Magee, Simpson County, MS.
The case will be presented to the Simpson County Grand Jury.

 

Fatal Shooting Claims Life of Mendenhall Man

Magee Police officials were dispatched to a local apartment complex where a fatal shooting took place Friday night, March 27th, 2015.

According to Magee Police Chief Randy Crawford, authorities rushed to Park Place Apartments, located on Raleigh Drive, shortly after 10:00 pm, subsequent to receiving a 911 call reporting someone had been shot in the parking lot.

Officers arrived at the scene to discover the victim, identified as Erin Lee Barber, 21, of Mendenhall, who had reportedly been shot multiple times.

Simpson County Coroner, Terry Tutor, arrived shortly thereafter at which time, Barber was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Officials state the shooter, Maurice Chevalia James, 21, of Magee, was taken into custody by police and charged with Possession of a Stolen Firearm, and an old warrant for Simple Assault. Police also reported a Glock 9mm handgun was recovered from the scene.

Chief Crawford also reported that preliminary investigation reveals that an altercation occurred earlier that day in Covington County, which later escalated, ending up in Magee, MS.

The case is still under investigation and will be presented to the Simpson County Grand Jury.
