On 11/12/2021 at approximately 8:13pm Friday night Magee Police Officers responded to the Magee Police Department in reference to someone that had been shot nearby.  The victim, identified as Charles Ryan Gauthier, was a rear passenger in a vehicle and had been shot at the intersection of 1st Street NW and 5th Avenue NW.

Moments after the shooting Magee Police and Simpson County Sheriff’s Deputies located and arrested the shooter, identified as Arturio Bell, located in an apartment at Azalea Apartments.  The driver of the vehicle was identified as Amber Mason, who was also located and arrested at Azalea Apartments.

Charles Gauthier was taken to Magee General Hospital then transferred to UMMC in Jackson.  The latest update stated that Gauthier was out of surgery and considered to be in stable condition at this time.

It has been rumored that this incident was ‘gang related’.  This is absolutely false.  The incident was a domestic disturbance between Mrs. Mason, her estranged husband driving the other vehicle, and Arturio Bell.  To our knowledge,  of the parties have any gang affiliations whatsoever.

On behalf of Magee Police Department, Chief Jones would like to personally thank all Officers and Deputies involved for a great job and safely making the arrests without incident.  This case remains under investigation and, as always, any anonymous credible information is greatly appreciated.
