Shirley Jean Purser passed away on Friday, June 20, 2025, at MS Baptist Hospital surrounded by her family. She was born to James Vardaman and Reatha Virdue Sullivan on May 27, 1942, in Magee, MS.
Shirley graduated from Magee High School and later married Paul Douglas Purser. They were married for fifty-eight years before his passing in 2021. Throughout the years of raising their four boys, she worked for the City of Magee before opening Christmas Unlimited in downtown Magee. She loved having her store and was known for her beautiful Christmas decorations.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Paul, along with her parents, James and Virdue; her sister, Mary Ann Ainsworth; her brother, Billy, and grandson, Sullivan.
Shirley is survived by her sons, Doug, Don, Darren (Amanda), and Dale (Beronica), along with her grandchildren, Megan (James), Morgan (Hunter), Anna Grace, Isabella, John Paul, Lexi, and Avery, and five great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Buddy Sullivan (Becky Jean); her brother-in-law, Gene Purser (Rita); and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Our “Mimi” was loved by many and will be deeply missed, especially by her precious friends.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at Tutor Funeral Home in Magee, MS, from 11:00 am until 2:00 pm. The service will begin at 2:00 pm in the Tutor Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Doug Lane officiating. Interment will follow in Magee City Cemetery.
