Shirley” Clyde Williamson”, 87 passed away March 19, 2023, with his family by his side.
Clyde was born on November 14, 1935, in Simpson County, Mississippi to parents Grady and Mamie (Sullivan) Williamson. He attended Pinola elementary and graduated from Pinola High School in 1955. During his high school year, he was a star fullback for the Pinola Bulldog football team. He led with most scoring points for several years in the South Little Dixie Football Conference. After high school, he received a football scholarship to play at Co-lin. It was during this time that he met the love of his life, Billie Jo Grantham, of Mendenhall. They got married in 1957 and together built a wonderful life, totaling 49 years. They raised two sons and had one grandson. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his two sons, friends and relatives.
Clyde worked and retired at Magnetek in Mendenhall. He was then able to spend all his time on his passion…… Cows. He was known all over Simpson County because of his experience and knowledge with cows. He loved taking care of them and especially talking about them to his friends. In 2021, he was inducted into the Simpson County Cattleman’s Hall of Fame.
Clyde and his family were life-long members of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Mendenhall, like his parents before him. He served as a deacon and attended church regularly. He and Billie Jo instilled a love of Jesus in their two boys. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and church members.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 21, 2023 from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Mendenhall. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Mendenhall. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery in Mendenhall, Mississippi. Bro. Buddy Keyes will officiate. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Mendenhall is in charge of arrangements. 601-847-4401
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Billie Jo Williamson.
Clyde is survived by his two sons, Ricky Dale Williamson (Karen) and Gary Clyde Williamson; one grandson, Jeffrey Ryan Williamson; numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
