The purpose of the Safe Haven Baby Boxes is to prevent illegal abandonment of newborns by raising awareness, and providing a safe area to place the baby and maintain complete anonymity.

The Safe Haven Law legally permits a mother in crisis to safely, securely, and anonymously surrender their baby if they are unable to care for their newborn.

Simpson General Hospital is in the process of installing a Safe Haven Baby Box.

Melissa Sullivan of SGH has a passion for babies and their mothers.  She realized the importance of assisting new mothers who are unable to keep their baby.

The Baby Boxes are not cheap!  Melissa is heading a fund raising drive to purchase the box.  Donations are tax deductible.  For more information, call 1-866-99baby! Or 1-888-472-2133.

A Baby Ball is installed in an exterior wall  of the hospital.  The box has an exterior door that automatically locks upon placement of a newborn inside the Baby Box, and an interior door which allows a medical staff member to secure the surrender newborn from inside the designate building.  The box is kept at a certain temperature .  When someone places a baby in the box, a silent alarm is sounded in the emergency room of the hospital signaling staff a baby has been placed in the box.

Thanks to SGH for their forward thinking in protecting those who cannot protect themselves.
