The Simpson County School Board met Thursday, February 10, 2022 at 4:00 PM, for their regular scheduled meeting.
The agenda and previous minutes were presented and approved.
The following consent agenda was approved by the board.
- Aleice McGowan, Elton Travis, Amanda Tindell and Joni Mills request permission to attend ISTE (ISTELive22), June 26-29, 2022, in New Orleans, LA
- Request for Simpson County Technical Center to accept a $14,800 Community Service Project Grant sponsored by Lowes.
- 16th Section: Request from South MS Land & Timber to return $5000 performance bond for 16-1N-2E. All work complete and site inspected.
- 16th Section: Request from McLaurin Enterprises to return a $2,500 performance bond from 16-1N-5E. All work is complete and site inspected.

The 2022-2023 Academic Calendar was presented to the board and approved.
Finance Director JoAnna Maddox presented the claims docket which was approved. Financial statements were presented to the board and approved.
Magee Middle School and Mendenhall Jr. High presented their ATS/TS/SAR school reports that are required by the state.
Superintendent Dr. Holloway advised the board that he met earlier that day with students from Magee High School. According to Dr. Holloway, the students were well behaved and attentive. Dr. Holloway explained the consolidation process and how it would affect the students. The students were very receptive and super excited about the consolidation and the opportunities that will be available. Dr. Holloway plans to meet with all students at each school in the coming days. Dr. Holloway advised the board improvements were being made at the district office. Staff at the District Office are being crossed trained allowing coverage of all positions.
Danny Cowart, School Board President, advised Dr. Holloway and School Board Attorney Welsa Sullivan will speak at the Mississippi School Board Association 50th Annual Conference is late February. Featuring two speakers from the district is quite an honor.

updated the board COVID numbers are down. If trends continue, the numbers should decrease even more in the coming days. All schools are back to in person learning.
Jeffery Walker and Dr. Robert Sanders updated the board on construction process. The 5th grade building at Mendenhall elementary is ready for concrete. Footings will be poured Friday, February 11, 2022, and slabs following the next week weather permitting. All materials for the new building are on site and ready to be installed. Work at Simpson Central is ready for the bid process. Bids will be opened the end of March for Simpson Central and the Cafeteria at Mendenhall High School.
Several citizens were in attendance for the meeting, but during public comments no comments were made by the public.
The board entered into executive session to discuss personnel issues.
The next regular schedule meeting is Thursday, March 10, 2022.
