Seven Magee High School students have been awarded full-tuition scholarships to Copiah-Lincoln Community College, where they will join the BlueWave Show Band and serve as the college’s mascot.

The students—Benjamin Ferrell, Addison Gray, Evanna Hoban, Hayden Huffman, Ashton Smith, Miriam Wright, and Ashleigh Wyatt—were recognized for their talents and commitment as they prepare to take the next step in their academic and musical journeys.

Benjamin is the grandson of Todd and Rhonda Ferrell. He is joined by his friends and family. Benjamin plans on majoring in architectural engineering. He is seventh in his class and has been in the band for eight years. He plans on continuing his band career by participating in the percussion section at Co-Lin. He is in the Beta Club, National Honor Society, and was percussion captain from 2022-2025.

Addison is the daughter of Johnny and Amanda Welborn and David Gray. She has been joined by her parents, siblings, and friends. She is planning on majoring in psychology. She is twenty-second in her class and has been in the band for eight years. She is planning on playing the trumpet while at Co-Lin. She is in the Beta Club, National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and was trumpet captain from 2023-2025.

Evanna is the daughter of Jennifer Craft and stepfather Zack Craft. She is joined today by her friends and family. Evanna is majoring in music education at Co-Lin. She has been a member of the band for one year and intends on playing in the ensemble for the BlueWave Show Band. She is also a member of the Beta club.

Hayden and friends and family

Hayden is the son of Bo and Darla Huffman. He is joined today by his friends and family. Hayden plans on majoring in music education with a minor in agriculture. He has been a member of the band for eight years and is a part of the Beta Club, National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, FFA, Student Council, FCCLA, and was a percussion captain from 2022-2025. He is also the valedictorian for the senior class.

Ashton Smith

Ashton is the son of Joe and Amanda Smith. He is joined by his friends, family, and siblings. Ashton plans on majoring in construction equipment operations at Co-Lin. He has been in the band for eight years and will be continuing his band journey as a part of the percussion section at Co-Lin. Miriam is the daughter of Tara and Scott Young. She is joined by family and friends.

Miriam will be majoring in pre-med. She was a member of the band for five years and was the 2024-2025 Magee Trojan Mascot. She is continuing her journey as the Wolf at Co-Lin next fall. Miriam is sixth in her class and a part of the Beta Club, National Honor Society, and FFA.

Ashleigh and family

Ashleigh is the daughter of Jay Wyatt and the late Annie Wyatt. She is joined today by her friends and family. Ashleigh is planning on majoring in English and communications. She has been a member of the band for eight years and was the 2024-2025 Drum Major, she will be continuing her musical journey as a flute player at Co-Lin. She is ranked fourth in her class and is a part of the Beta Club, National Honor Society, FCCLA, and Mu Alpha Theta.
