At the invitation of Lions Club Member, Joe McNulty, Roger Wicker attended the Monday, August 14th,  meeting of the Magee Lions Club.

Senator Wicker discussed activities in Washington and the slow motion that is occurring in passing bills and appointments.

“I am home to see the people,” stated Wicker who is running for re-election in 2018. He has served in the Senate since 2007.

Wicker expressed his support of an interstate that would serve as a hurricane evacuation from the coast to north Mississippi. “Medicare will bankrupt our nation if changes are not made,” explained Wicker. Wicker supports Medicare and does not want to see anyone without coverage but feels there are better ways to implement the program. He is the author of the Ship Act which requires 355 ships be in working order for our US Navy. Presently, there are 276 ships available to the Navy. The House has passed the Ship Act and the bill will be voted on by the Senate in the near future.

Wicker will return to the Senate following the Labor Day Holiday.
