On Thursday, May 21, 2025, at approximately 11:30 p.m., the Magee Police Department assisted a Simpson County Sheriff’s Deputy with a traffic stop on 5th Avenue SE near Highway 149. During the course of the stop, the deputy, acting on probable cause, requested all four passengers to exit the vehicle. A legal search of the vehicle was conducted, resulting in the discovery of a stolen firearm.
The firearm had been reported stolen on April 4, 2025, from Raleigh Annex Apartments. The gun had been taken from an unlocked vehicle parked outside the complex. The individual found in possession of the weapon, who had recently graduated high school, was taken into custody by the deputy. The firearm was secured as evidence and will at a later time be returned to its rightful owner.
This incident is a reminder of the importance of securing your belongings, especially firearms. A gun in the right hands can protect life. In the wrong hands, it can take a life.
Public safety starts with unity. When departments work together, communities become safer.
All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Chief Denis J. Borges
Magee Police Department
