Admirers of Mississippi art icon Sam Gore should watch television’s “The Hour” program airing statewide on February 14.

A nationally celebrated artist, the retired Mississippi College Art Department chairman will discuss his award-winning career spanning more than six decades.

Broadcasts of the interview with the 88-year-old Clinton resident will reach 14 Mississippi cities. In addition, it will be picked up by viewers outside the Magnolia State, including media markets in Memphis, Tennessee, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Montgomery, Alabama.

Written by photo-journalist Barbara Gauntt, “Samuel M. Gore: Blessed With Tired Hands,” the new book published by University Press of Mississippi is a must-read for the gifted artist’s many fans. And a number of them will tune into the United Methodist Hour broadcast hosted by Steve Casteel.

Viewers can catch the show on Jackson’s WDBD (the Fox station) at 7 a.m. Sunday, on WDAM, the ABC affiliate in Hattiesburg, at 9 a.m. Sunday and on 8 a.m. that morning on WLOX, the CBS affiliate in Biloxi, among others. It will air on WTOK, the ABC affiliate in Meridian at 8 a.m. Sunday.

On the show, Gore plans to talk about the wonderful mural he crafted at Van Winkle Methodist Church in Jackson years ago. The Christian artist designed one that stands 16-feet by 20-feet and features 20 life-sized figures. His magnificent bronze sculpture of Moses & the Ten Commandments at the Mississippi College School of Law also makes a powerful statement about his faith. Other Gore sculptures like Servant Savior have become landmarks at the Baptist-affiliated university in Clinton.

While the TV show is called “The Hour,” the 2016 version now lasts 30 minutes. Viewers in cities like Tupelo, Starkville, Vicksburg, Brookhaven, and Greenwood are encouraged to watch the broadcast Sunday morning before heading to church with family members.
