Patricia Braddock, Agricultural & Natural Resources Instructor, has been chosen as Teacher of the Year at Simpson County Technical Center for the 2020-2021 school year. She received a Bachelor’s degree in Animal & Dairy Science and a Master’s degree in Agricultural & Extension Education from Mississippi State University.

Ms. Braddock applied for and was awarded a grant to implement an edible school garden from Blue Cross Blue Shield of MS Foundation in the amount of $119,814.00. The grant will allow for updates/enhancements to three greenhouses, aquaponics system, hydroponics system and plant materials. In addition to being the FFA advisor, she inspires and enlightens her students through engaging and interactive lessons in agricultural science.

Ms. Braddock knows how to make her classroom successful either bringing the world of agriculture to her class or bringing her class to the world of agriculture.  Science, including agriculture science, requires learning to be built from observation and application.  Her students learn through dissections, lab work and experience in greenhouse, aquaponics, hydroponics and agricultural mechanics. Ms. Braddock always makes sure that all of her classes are engaging to her students.  Most of the time, learning in her room revolves around cooperative learning and inquiry-based learning.  She strives to generate a desire in her students to look forward to coming to class and offers as many opportunities for students to get involved in FFA as she can. She takes student learning to a new level. She has developed relevant and rigorous lesson plans that almost always have an engaging lab activity to go with them. Dissections, models, guest speakers, field trips, or whatever it takes to open her students’ eyes and minds are never an obstacle for Ms. Braddock. Her teaching style is a testament to the fact that students learn by doing.
