SCTC Student Chosen for Generous Construction Scholarship
Simpson County Technical Center (SCTC) student James Floyd was recently named a scholarship recipient by the Mississippi Construction Education Foundation and the Mississippi State Board of Contractors.
Chosen to receive a $500 scholarship, Floyd was awarded for being an outstanding full-time student enrolled in a Career and Technical Education (CTE) program, with plans to continue his CTE education.
At SCTC, Floyd has been enrolled in two CTE programs, including construction/carpentry and diesel service technician program – a rarity among students involved in additional extracurricular activities at their high school.
“We are very proud of James and his accomplishments in CTE,” said Dr. George Huffman,
SCTC director. “I am proud that James has embraced the opportunities around Career and
Technical Education and knows that he has some skills that he will be able to take with him
when he graduates that will allow him to go somewhere and do something after high
school.”
A senior at Magee High School, Floyd plans to attend Millsaps College in Jackson.
