SCTC Features Health Informatics

Simpson County Technical Center (SCTC) is proud to feature its Health Informatics program, a relatively new interdisciplinary field in the health care industry that uses information technology to organize and analyze health records to improve health care outcomes.

For those interested in pursuing a career that merges health care and technology, health informatics is an excellent choice. Health informatics provides electronic access to medical records for patients, doctors, nurses, hospital administrators, insurance companies and health information technicians. Not only do health informatics careers allow professionals to put their technical skills to work to improve others’ lives, but they also offer competitive pay and job security due to the rising demand for skilled workers in the industry.

The Health Informatics instructor for SCTC is Kenyatta Durr, a recognized leader in Mississippi’s economy, through the Mississippi Council on Economic Education. Pictured are her students participating in a lab activity where they are teaching each other medical terminology.
