SCTC Features Agriculture and Natural Resources

Simpson County Technical Center (SCTC) is featuring its Agriculture and Natural Resources Program.  This course is designed to introduce students to the fundamental concepts and principles of the modern agriculture and natural resources industry. Emphasis is based on career and leadership skills; basic principles of plant, animal and soil science; and basic mechanical technologies in the field.

SCTC students in agriculture, food and natural resources learn and practice skills that prepare them for diverse post-high school education and training opportunities, from apprenticeships and two-year college programs to four-year college and graduate programs. The student organization for AGNR is Future Farmers of America (FF), which is more than just a club providing opportunities for hands-on learning, but for applying for career, leadership and personal skills in real-world environments. Students are encouraged to build their skills by developing projects; attending events; and competing in district, state and national competitions.

In this photo, instructor Patricia Braddock guides students on how to take apart a small engine they might use regularly on a farm and how to put it back together, all the while finding out how it works and how to address common problems.
