Simpson County School District (SCSD) is proud to announce its District-Level Parent of the Year, Teacher of the Year and Administrator of the Year for the 2023-2024 School Year.

Stacy Chapin, of Magee, was selected as the SCSD Parent of the Year. A parent of three children attending Magee schools, Chapin is the current president of the SCSD Community Engagement Council, formerly the P-16 Council, and the president of the Magee High School PTO. An active member of her community, Chapin serves on the Magee Chamber of Commerce and is involved in the community theater.

A Simpson County native, Durr has worked 17 years in education, having served in several capacities including educator, administrator, student services coordinator and coach. A Master Teacher of Economics, Durr is recognized as a leader in Mississippi’s economic development thanks to her in-depth knowledge of basic and advanced-level economic concepts. She was also the recipient of the Senator Thad Cochran Teacher of the Year for Personal Finance Award. Currently, she is pursuing a Doctor of Education from Arkansas State University.

He has been nominated as the 2013 Metro-Jackson Area Teacher of the Year and recognized as the 2014 Forest Hill High School Teacher of the Year. As the district-level honorees, Chapin, Durr and Brumfield will have an opportunity to contend for state-level recognitions against other parents, teachers and administrators throughout Mississippi.

“The district is very honored to have teachers, administrators and parents who go above and beyond to serve our students with excellence daily,” said Dr. Furlinda Travis, assistant superintendent of human resources and operations. “We congratulate our finalists who continue to show amazing leadership, dedication, and commitment to the students of Simpson County School District.”
