SCSD Employee Re-Elected to Board of Directors for Magnolia State School Counselor Association

Crystal Brewer, Simpson County School District employee and counselor for Simpson Central School, was recently re-elected to serve as a member on the Board of Directors for the Magnolia State School Counselor Association.

A founding member of the Magnolia State School Counselor Association, Brewer will serve a three-year term on the Board of Directors, effective July 1, and will head the group as board chair. She has held the position of board chair since the creation of the association in April 2021.

One of nine board members, Brewer will serve in a leadership role on a committee and will work collaboratively with the other board members to make all leadership decisions.

Brewer said she debated whether to run for another term on the board but felt like she still had much to contribute to the association.

“I believe in the work that school counselors do to support students, and I want to continue to be a part of that work through this professional association,” said Brewer. “I am really excited to have the opportunity to serve for another three years.”

The Magnolia State School Counselor Association is a Mississippi affiliate of the American School Counselor Association. The mission of the association is to foster a closer professional and personal relationship among professional school counselors in order to realize more fully the objectives of school counseling programs through membership and active involvement in the association.

In addition to the Magnolia State School Counselor Association, Brewer has served in other leadership capacities throughout her professional counseling career. In June 2022, she concluded a three-year term of service on the Board of Directors for the American School Counselor Association. She previously served as president of the Mississippi School Counselor Association. She also served as awards chair for the Mississippi Counseling Association.

Brewer has been an employee of Simpson County School District for more than 20 years at Simpson Central School.
