School’s Out for Summer

 

School is out for Summer! But wait, school has been out since Spring Break! School officially has come to an end for the 2019-2020 school year. A new way to receive awards was experienced with drive through and virtual awards day. Awards day were not the only change, GRADUATION. The class of 2020 experienced the first ever drive through graduation for Simpson County School District. The graduations were not traditional but, the seniors did get to see each other one more time before each will go their separate ways and the possibility never to gather again as a whole. Pictures were made, smile were present, goodbyes were told in person, and the seniors were together one last time. In a ceremony in front of limited teachers and parents’ seniors received their diplomas. Other graduates might have experienced a more traditional graduation but still it was not the same with limited attendance. The students did not get to say good-bye to the underclassmen or walk the halls one last time in the caps and gowns for the lower elementary students to see.

Seniors have spent twelve long years learning things that left them knowledgeable and even frustrated. Years of arguing with teachers over the answer of a question that, in your opinion, is just nonsense. With the turning of the tassel, and one more step your adult life officially starts. All other things have been leading to this moment and now that it’s here. If there is a positive from the last nine weeks, the students have learned to adjust and accept the cards that are dealt. There will be adjustments in day to day routines for the rest of their lives. How one adjusts defines the person.

Spring 2020 has brought more attention to the virtual world. School work, jobs, and meeting were held via zoom or video. The world we live in today is more reliant on virtual communication than ever before. Thanks to the virtual world society was able to continue during the shutdown.
