School Board Votes to Change Meeting Time

The Simpson County School Board voted to change meeting time from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. All meetings will still take place on the second Thursday of each month at the district office in Mendenhall.

 

The agenda and minutes were approved by the board.

The board recognized Magee High School Baseball team and coaches on their accomplishment for advancing to State and placing second in the State in 3A.

 

A discussion was held on testing all athletes, cheerleaders, band members and any extracurricular actives weekly for COVID. The board requested more information from the Attorney to see if this request was within the rights of the district and if this request can be implemented. The board will take action when more study has been received.

 

 

The board approved the Homeless Handbook and Foster Care plan presented by Misty Hanna, Director of Federal Programs.

 

Tom McAlpin presented the bid approvals for the sixteen-section hunting and fishing leases. Numbers are substantially higher than given years. See chart attached.

The following HR report was approved by the Board:

The board approved the resignation of Ishmael Lockhart. Arietta Brown was approved as resigning as an Instructional Assistant at Mendenhall elementary and hired as a teacher for Mendenhall Elementary. Jonathan Hardy was approved as a new hire for Magee High School as a Math teacher.

 

The board approved to purchase a second school bus that was budgeted for this school year. The new bus will cost $88,312.00.

 

The student handbook was distributed to the board for the first reading and approval will be voted on at the next board meeting.

 

The board adopted a resolution of Intent to designate an architect firm to assist in guidance in the spending of the ESSER money awarded to the district.

 

The board approved the hiring of an architect on the recommendation of a committee that was formed to interview candidates. The committee consisted of board members, leadership teams and outside citizen and banker.  The board approved the architect group of Machado/Patano Engineering and Architecture Design from Biloxi.

 

The board approved and set two special called meeting. First meeting is June 30th to pay year end bills, HR and any other business needing address at that time. A second meeting was set for July 19, 2021 to adopt a Resolution for funding of capital improvements.

 

Board entered into executive session to discuss a student issue.

 

After the executive session , the meeting was recessed until June 30, 2021 special called meeting at 5:00 p.m. to close out the fiscal year.
