Mississippi College School of Business scholarships are opening doors for many outstanding students to receive a first-rate education.
School of Business Dean Marcelo Eduardo is thankful to faithful donors who make these incredible opportunities possible.
“The importance of the scholarship funding that our supporters so generously provide our students is simply transformational,” Eduardo says.
In many cases, these scholarships determine whether students are able to enroll for classes in Self Hall, the MC School of Business headquarters.
The financial awards ensure students will gain access to “a top business education in a strong Christian environment,” Eduardo said.
One of the newest announced in March is the Margaret Basco Business Scholarship. The award is named for a prominent retired MC business professor. For years, Margaret Basco “saw the first-hand power of an MC business education,” he said. The scholarship is “making it possible for students to be part of that experience and transform their lives.”
The Mississippi College School of Business is seen as a first-class achiever in national and international higher education circles. It is an AACSB International accredited school. That’s “the most prestigious business accreditation in the world – we are constantly recruiting and competing for the best students,” Eduardo said.
As of August 2020, there are 878 institutions holding AACSB accreditation worldwide. Getting the stamp of approval from the organization, the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International, indicates these schools offer a high-quality education.
The Margaret Basco Business Scholarship and other financial awards will “allow us to remain competitive and attract those students. And in the process continue to enhance our reputation,” the dean said.
The first student recipient of the Margaret Basco award is expected to be announced in February 2022. The Basco scholarship was first given to the institution a few weeks ago. Said Eduardo: “It always warms our hearts when donors designate their gifts towards scholarship funding.”
Other scholarships are making a positive impact for students in 2021 at the School of Business. Paige Boteler is the recipient of the Joe Robison Scholarship.
A 23-year-old marketing major, Paige is grateful for the scholarship that reduces her costs for tuition and books. “It has helped me stay positive through these tough times of the pandemic,” says the Richland resident. “I appreciate it very much as every little bit helps.”
The Mississippian says her future plans are to work in marketing for a government agency or bank. “I plan to have a small online boutique on the side because I love fashion.”
The scholarship speaks volumes about Joe Robison, Jr., a 1966 MC alumnus with a servant’s heart. In 2016, Robison was named the co-recipient of the university’s Order of the Golden Arrow Award. Selected by the National Alumni Association, the award spotlights alumni or friends of the Baptist-affiliated university for their personal or professional achievements. The Hattiesburg resident served for decades as the CEO of the Robison Tire Company before retiring in 2008.
Over the years, Joe Robison has remained a strong supporter of MC athletics and the School of Business at his alma mater. In 2005, he joined the MC Foundation Board. The group meets quarterly to oversee university investments, help with fund-raising projects and much more to strengthen the Blue & Gold family.
