You have all heard the statement, “We are all in this together”. Well, whether we like it or not, we are all in this together. “This” being Simpson County and the effort to develop, enhance and promote the economy and quality of life in our community.
I’ve been in and around our county all my life, and there are those who will tell you that they don’t want Simpson County to change; they like it the way it is; the rural nature of the county is why they moved back here. I have also been in and around other parts of our state and nation, and let me tell you, if you are not moving forward; you are moving backward. There is no such thing as status quo in the world of business, economy, and family.
Yes, we are all in this together. Sort of like a marriage, for better or worse. Now, you may be asking yourselves, “What is this guy’s point”? The Simpson County Development Foundation is like Uncle Sam, “We need you”.
We need you to become a member, a stakeholder, if you are not already. The SCDF exists to generate development in the economy of the county that is productive and lasting. We are striving for positive change in our county and working with other groups, organizations, boards and directors. Our aims include 1) development and expansion of our existing business and industrial base; 2) more and better paying jobs for our citizens; 3) safe and orderly neighborhoods; 4) superior leadership among our people; 5) a strong, quality school system; and 6) a reasonable and stable tax base.
Membership begins at the individual level of Thirty-Five Dollars annually. There are other levels, from a Business Sponsor to President’s Circle, and all our information may be found at our website at www.simpsoncounty.biz or contact our office at 176 West Court Street, Mendenhall. Our phone number is 601-847-2375.
All stakeholders receive opportunities to participate in programs and activities, recognition as a Pro-Business Leader, subscription to SCDF e-Newsletter, work force development opportunities through cooperation with Copiah Lincoln Community College, SCDF annual meeting and banquet, and much more.
The annual meeting will be held on Thursday, April 21, 2016, 6:30 p.m., in the historic dining hall at Boswell Regional Center in Sanatorium. Our featured speaker will be Mike Monk, CEO of the Central Mississippi Planning and Development District. Mike is a native Simpson Countian who now resides in Florence, MS. Tickets are Twenty Dollars each and may be purchased through the SCDF office.
Remember, “We are all in this together”, and it is essential that we ALL focus our efforts on goals and objectives that move Simpson County forward.

“Insanity is doing the same thing, over and over again, but expecting different results.”
