Mark your calendars for Thursday, April 21, 2016, for the thirty-seventh Annual Membership Meeting of the Simpson County Development Foundation. The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. and will be held in the historic Sanatorium dining hall on the campus of Boswell Regional Center.
Our special thanks go out to the Boswell Regional Center for hosting this event for the Foundation. Director Steve Allen and his excellent staff consisting of Jennifer Chennault, Kathy Pittman, Beth Luper, and the Boswell Regional Center Friends and Family Association are preparing an exceptional atmosphere and a delicious menu.
Also, we need to thank our two event sponsors, Southern Pine Electric Power Association and Entergy Mississippi for their significant contribution toward this important meeting. Entergy-logo SouthernPine
Our keynote speaker is Simpson County native Mike Monk who is the Chief Executive Officer of the Central Mississippi Planning and Development District. CMPDD has been promoting regional excellence since 1968, and their purpose is to assist with creative regional solutions to relevant and emerging issues for participating governments which Simpson County is a partner along with Hinds, Rankin, Madison, Copiah, Warren and Yazoo Counties.
Mike has served in various capacities at CMPDD for twenty-five years, and was serving as Director of Community and Economic Development at the time of his appointment as CEO. Mike has stated his intention to “promote the region and help make it the best place to live, work, and raise a family by working collectively to support community and economic development efforts, workforce development, services to the elderly, and planning for transportation and infrastructure needs.”
Mike is married to the former Becky Shows of Mendenhall, and is the son of Benny Howard and Ann Monk also of Mendenhall. Mike and Becky now make their home in Florence, MS.
It is an important meeting for all of Simpson County, and we anticipate a large crowd. I encourage each of you to attend and discover the activity going on in Simpson County. You do not have to be a member to attend, and tickets may be purchased at the Simpson County Development Foundation office for $20 each at 176 West Court Street, Mendenhall, MS, or you may mail your check to SCDF, P.O. Box 127, Mendenhall, MS 39111, and we will return your tickets.
The Foundation needs your support, your ideas, and willingness to serve in order to move Simpson County forward and improve our economic well-being and quality of life.
“Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people.” Eleanor Roosevelt
