On Friday, April 29, 2916, the sixth grad science students at Simpson Academy were treated to an interactive, educational presentation by Mrs. Kathy Van Cleve. The topic of the presentation was the brain and effects experienced by our aging adults population. Students were able to experience some of the chances that may occur in the brain as we age or become affected by medical disorders such as dementia or Alzheimer’s disease.
During the presentation, students were able to experience what it feels like to have rheumatoid arthritis by wearing special gloves. They were also given special “glasses” to wear momentarily that minced the feeling of vision issued as as presbyopia and glaucoma.
Kathy Van Cleave is the current director of the Division of Alzheimer’s Disease with the Mississippi Department of Health. She was assisted by Maria Allen, the Caregiver Support Liaison for the Division of Alzheimer’s Disease.
