2023-2024 School year is officially underway in sports with an opening tournament this weekend for the Lady Cougar Softball team.
Simpson hosted an all day tournament. The Cougars dominated all three games for the day.
The lady Cougars are under the direction of head coach Matthew Harrison. Harrison stated: “I thought this past Saturday was an overall great day. I thought our girls were ready to go from the start. Payton Hayes set the tone for us early in the first inning of the first game with a grand slam. We also had a great start in the circle from Hudson Emrich, where she attacked hitters all day long and got two wins for us. Kylin Chisholm also had a huge day at the plate racking up 6 hits, 3 home runs, and 10 RBI’s. Jayda Smith also had a big day with 6 hits. Those two girls were seeing it really well and getting off good swings early in the count. Mallory Duncan also pitched a great game to wrap up the day throwing a complete game with 0 ER. Seeing how far she has come as a pitcher and player has been so much fun to watch. We also had to rely on two 6th graders, Stella Steed and Annmarie Blakeney to step up big for us, and boy did they! Annmarie closed out the first game striking out two, and Stella got things going early in the first game with an RBI double. It’s so much to watch these girls get after it every single day. I’m looking forward to seeing what the Lord has in store for us this year.”
The ladies will be back in action Tuesday, August 1, 2023 at home against Sylva Bay Academy.
Attached is a schedule and roster of the team.
