On Wednesday, November 28, SCA Seniors traveled to the Mississippi State Penitentiary in Parchman. Government teacher Amy McWilliams oversaw the trip and has been taking groups to tour the facility for many years. The seniors were taken through the many buildings around the facility. Most interestingly, Seniors were taken inside the complex where executions take place. There was a gas chamber, which is not currently used for executions, and the room for lethal injections. Many seniors made comments about how they very much enjoyed this eye opening experience and hope that the tradition will continue for years to come.
