Today, June 1, 2021, is National Say Something Nice Day. I always enjoy seeing what special day it is. Today is also Go Barefoot Day, National Nail Polish Day, National Heimlich maneuver day, National Pen Pal day…and a few more!
When I say “say something nice,” my thoughts went immediately to my daddy. I grew up hearing: “if you can’t say something good about somebody don’t say anything at all.” Many times at the dinner table my daddy would throw the quote on me! Really, it would make me mad. I didn’t feel I was saying something unkind…I just wanted to know the scope!

The “saying” has remained deeply entrenched in my brain! I wonder what is deeply entrenched in my children’s brain!
As you about your business today, think of something nice you can say to others. Let’s keep the good words flowing!
Hope you enjoy your nice day!

Sue, my mother used to say the same thing as your Dad! And, like you, it has stayed with me all through the years.
Sue, Your Dad always had something nice to say—to his customers, to the children of Magee who would run into his store to buy a donut or another treat, and to the citizens who he helped during the times of trouble with fires and other emergencies. I am thankful I was one of those children who crossed his path on a daily basis and always saw him “say something nice.” We need more like him. He blessed my life.
Love your remembrance of Daddy’s “always say something nice”. So important and he lived it.
