After 33 1/2 years with Walmart Pharmacy, Sandy Adcock has decided to make a change in life!

A graduate of Ole Miss School of Pharmacy, her daddy, Winton Ovis White, always told everyone she got a degree in “farming (pharmacy”…and she would always be a farmer!

Sandy graduated May 10, 1981 from pharmacy school.   She began her career with Walmart July 30, 1987

Walmart was not her first job!

Three months after graduation while working at her first job, Sandy was robbed at gunpoint!  The other employee was tied up with duck tape and told to lie flat on the floor face down.  The robbers forced Sandy to give access to all the control drugs plus any cash on hand.  Sandy was then duck taped and forced to lie face down on the floor.  Sandy was able to break loose and free the other employee who by this time her hands were turning blue due to the tightness of the tape.  The robbers were never found…what away to start a career!

Sandy did relief and floating work for several years.  She worked locally for Joe McPhail at Choctaw Drug Store and James Robert Magee of Magee Pharmacy.

Work didn’t stop Sandy and Joey from having a large family*** four boys!  Who according to Sandy were “door steps.”  Sandy credited her mother, Jean Tullos White (who died 6/2/2015) and her father, Winton Ovis White (who died 12/13/2007) with keeping the family running while Sandy and Joey worked.

Sandy’s mother worked at the Mize Drug Store for 34 years.  Sandy also worked there during the summers and school breaks starting as a junior in high school.  (I would say Sandy has been around pills for a long time!!!!)

Sandy has seen quite a few changes during her pharmacy tenure .  “We began with old typewriters that had leavers, then typewriters that were sized for labels, to electric typewriters, call in prescriptions, and now almost all electronic .  “The new systems are a tremendous time saver,” said Adcock.

Sandy’s official last day of work at Walmart is Friday, February 12, 2021,  But, get this!!! Sandy is retiring on Friday and starting a new job on Monday!!!

Sandy will be the pharmacist at Little’s Drug Store in Raleigh.  (The drug store has been bought out by the owners of the McGuffee’s Drug Store in Mendenhall). Sandy will be running the show!

“My customers have meant so much to me…many have been my customers for 33 years!  They have  become like family to me.”

Best wishes to Sandy as she begins a new path.  One thing for sure, she is a worker!

Joey and Sandy have six grandchildren with another one due on Easter Sunday
