LAUREL, Miss. — June 9, 2025 — Sam Dabit, DO, an internal medicine physician at South Central Regional Medical Center, attended the Mississippi Osteopathic Medical Association’s 44th Annual Coast Conference, where he was honored with the prestigious Reggie Stewart, DO, Preceptor of the Year Award.
Mississippi Osteopathic Medical Association, or MOMA, is a statewide organization founded in 1980 and accredited by the National Osteopathic Medicine Association. It hosts an annual conference for physicians from across the state to convene, earn continuing medical education credits and attend an awards ceremony to honor individuals who go above and beyond in their calling to practice and teach osteopathic medicine.
The Reggie Stewart, DO, Preceptor of the Year Award, “honors an osteopathic physician in Mississippi who actively shapes the profession’s future through clinical teaching, mentoring, and involvement with osteopathic medical students,” MOMA stated in its announcement.
The recipient of this award is chosen by medical students who are asked to identify a preceptor who made a tangible difference in their training.
“I am elated to have received this award,” said Dr. Dabit, when asked how he felt. “I was supported, encouraged and challenged by so many people during my journey to becoming a physician; I feel as though I have a responsibility to support others in the same way.”
Dr. Dabit received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from William Carey University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2016, and he began practicing at South Central Regional Medical Center in 2024. In 2024, Dr. Dabit was also inducted as a fellow into the American College of Osteopathic Internists.
Dr. Dabit has been an integral part of growing the Graduate Medical Education program at SCRMC to include an Internal Medicine Residency Program, where he currently serves as the associate program director.
Dr. Dabit’s positive impact on the lives of his patients, colleagues and trainees is immense, and he is beyond deserving of this recognition.
