JACKSON – Friday marks the start of the Second Amendment sales tax weekend, Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves said today.
All day Friday, Saturday and Sunday, outdoor enthusiasts can see a break on supplies for hunting gear, including gun safes, archery equipment and ammunition. The initiative is similar to a sales tax break offered in Louisiana.
“Hunting is the favorite pastime of so many Mississippians and a major tourism draw for rural areas,” Lt. Gov. Reeves said. “The Second Amendment Sales Tax Holiday is a way to make these sports a little less expensive and encourage more families to enjoy the outdoors.”
Lt. Gov. Reeves and the National Rifle Association worked closely to place the sales tax break into law. For a full list of items eligible for the sales tax exemption, visit https://www.dor.ms.gov/docs/2015SecondAmendmentSalesTaxHoliday.pdf.
