William Carey University Provost Dr. Noal Cochran has been elected as a trustee of SACSCOC, one of the largest accrediting organizations in the country.
The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges is the accrediting body for about 800 higher education entities that award degrees in Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana, Georgia, Florida, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia. Its main purpose is to improve educational quality and assure the public that its member institutions meet approved standards.
“Dr. Cochran has a wealth of experience, not only in educational circles, but specifically in the area of accreditation. We are pleased that he will be able to utilize that experience to serve other SACSCOC schools and represent William Carey on a regional and national level,” said WCU President Dr. Ben Burnett.
As part of the 77-member SACSCOC Board of Trustees, Cochran will serve on a standing committee on Compliance and Reports (C&R) – evaluating a variety of institutional reports and formulating recommendations about institutions’ accreditation status with SACSCOC. C&R Committees meet twice a year, along with an executive session of the full board.
Cochran’s three-year term ends Dec. 31, 2027.
