On January 30, Governor Phil Bryant signed the Mississippi Broadband Enabling Act into law surrounded by many happy legislators. This bill was one of the fastest bills to move through both the House and Senate and basically received unanimous bipartisan support. The bill is aimed at allowing electric cooperatives to serve their customers with high-speed internet using fiber optic cables that will be added to their electrical grid. Mississippi, being a largely rural and sparsely populated state, will now have the potential to work, shop, and play all from their homes. With the bill becoming law, many are left wondering when will we reap the benefits from this law? No one is exactly sure when we will see the roll out of this large project, but you can expect to see major investments made by the cooperatives to bring this technology to customers as soon as possible. MageeNews.com will continue to bring you updates on this developing story.
