Following the outburst at the Tuesday night, February 15, 2022 Alderman meeting by Mayor Dale Berry concerning the actions of the Magee Police Chief Chris Jones and the police department, the citizens of Magee have been up in arms over the disrespect shown to the Chief and force.

Like everyone, Mayor Berry is frustrated with the gun shots and happenings in Magee.  He pulled no punches in calling out the police department. The big question is should this type of discussion have been in an executive session and not in public? The outburst as well as the entire meeting is  available on video on MageeNews.com FB page. (Discussion starts at 1:08)

Mayor Berry reported 6 officers have resigned:  Chris Jones, Billy Seghini, Sean Cooper, Mike Grubbs, Walter Burkett, and Jamie Burkett (dispatcher).  Talk is more resignations are to follow.

Agenda for May 20, 2025 City of Magee Board of Aldermen Meeting

May 19, 2025

Posted Friday at City Hall was a special called board meeting set for Monday at 2 PM.  According to several aldermen, the meeting was originally scheduled for Saturday at 2.  The wrong information was posted in the window at City Hall.  Several aldermen cannot attend the Monday meeting.  A quorum is doubtful for the Monday meeting.

Mayor Berry informed the Board Sunday night that the Special Called Board Meeting will be Tuesday, February 22nd at 8 AM.  The sign announcing the meeting will be placed at City Hall Monday.

The next regular scheduled meeting of the Board is February 28th at 5 PM for a work shop.  The March Board board meeting is March 1.

Fire the mayor and keep our Police Officers!

His calls to fire the officers shows where he stands on crime.

He is so incompetent he can’t even properly call a special board meeting.

    Trash everywhere.
    Knee deep grass everywhere.
    Highway 49 is an eyesore.
    Downtown is neglected.
    Street lights out everywhere.
Can’t get his story straight on when the cameras will be installed.

The problem is not the officers it’s our do nothing mayor.

The officer stayed very calm considering. That’s one of the most unprofessional things I’ve ever seen by an elected official. Maybe he’ll get off his back porch complaining and strap a gun on to fight crime now that he’s run the officers off with his loose canon tongue. No need to take anyone aside and air grievances privately when it’s obvious you have a personal ax to grind and a public office to do it with. I’m sure we’re all safer now. Thanks 👍🏼
