Rockin K Farm is a 4th generation family farm in Smith County with 3 generations still working the farm!  Glen Kennedy, Chaz’s grandfather, passed in 2016.  Billy Kennedy (69), Chaz Kennedy (37), and Mikey Kennedy (17) are involved in the day to day operations of Rockin K Farms.

Anytime I hear “Smith County” watermelon, I take notice.  Well, this is what the Kennedy family raises…Smith County watermelons!

The largest melon grown this year weighed in at 62 lbs.

According to Chaz, “we mostly sale wholesale.”  Fresh Way Produce (Richard Cockrell), Sullivan Grocery of Raleigh, and Price Busters out of Forest, Ms as well as local peddlers handle the Kennedy watermelons.

“We believe that Jesus Christ blessed us greatly and without faith in Him, we could not have been successful,” added Chaz.

The Kennedy’s are very appreciate of everyone who bought melons from this year.  Although there is only about 2 weeks left of harvesting melons, Rockin K Farms will have pumpkins in the fall.

Rockin K Farms is truly a family affair.  Not only are the Kennedy men involved but Chaz’s wife, Machelle, and sons, Mikey, Kyaline, & Matthew (ages 17, 15, 13).  Mikey is already been bumped to a “man” position with the farm.

Chaz bragged on his boys!  “They are great helpers and we couldn’t have made this successful with out them and God,” stated Kennedy.

“We live by Philippians 4:13:  “I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.”  I thank our great men and women who serve our great country to keep us safe and allow us to have the freedom that we have, “ Chaz explained.

Without farmers, we wouldn’t have access to food and other basic necessities…watermelons!

In the words of Wendell Berry: ““We have neglected the truth that a good farmer is a craftsman of the highest order, a kind of artist.”

The Kennedy men are truly craftsman of the highest order.
