Rex Hall Broadhead, Jr., age 80, departed his earthly life and entered the presence of Jesus on December 9, 2018, at Simpson General Hospital in Mendenhall.

He was born on March 22, 1938, in Brandon, Mississippi, to Rex Sr. and Winnie Merle Everett Broadhead.

Rex attended Mendenhall Schools for twelve years where he was a standout football and basketball player. He held many athletic records for many years at Mendenhall. He was a member of the Little Dixie championship football team for multiple years. Rex graduated from Mendenhall High School in 1957 and then went on to attend The University of Southern Mississippi.

Rex married his beloved wife, Barbara Sanders Broadhead, on July 8, 1961. Together they had four children, Stacy, Delwyn, Beth, and Bill. Rex was the Owner and Executive Manager of Broadhead Lumber and Manufacturing Company, Incorporated. He also worked as a real estate developer, timber producer, and cattle rancher. He was the Commissioner of Simpson County Soil and Water District, an Officer of Federal Land Bank and the American Brahman Association, and devoted 35 years of service to the Soil and Water District. He loved spending time on his farm tending to his cattle and visiting at breakfast at the grocery store with his many friends from the community. Rex was one of the founding fathers of Simpson County Academy.

Rex was a member of the Mendenhall United Methodist Church and Chairman of the Board for many years. Rex later joined Mendenhall First Baptist Church where he served as deacon and deacon emeritus and faithfully attended until his death. He loved the fellowship of his Sunday School friends and treasured his time studying the Bible with them. Rex lived in Mendenhall his whole life.

Rex is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Barbara; his four children, Stacy (Debbie) Broadhead, Delwyn (Steve) Pruett, Beth (Michael) Womack, and Bill (Amanda) Broadhead; nine grandchildren, Lindsey Walker, Rex Broadhead, IV, Paul Munn, Kyle Munn, Bob Pruett, Jacob Pruett, Maegan Womack, Alex Broadhead, and Bella Broadhead. He is also survived by five great-grandchildren, one brother, Larry (Margo) Broadhead, and many nieces and nephews.

Rex was preceded in death by his parents, Rex Sr. and Winnie Merle Broadhead.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 11, from 9:00-12:00 at Mendenhall First Baptist Church, followed by the funeral at 12:00. Burial will follow at Mendenhall Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Mendenhall.

Arrangements are entrusted with Tutor Funeral Home of Mendenhall.
