Reverend Bobby G. Jones Sr. (84) died peacefully at Baptist Hospital, Jackson, MS on Sunday, February 11, 2018. Born in Bassfield, MS, he was the eldest of seven children. An outstanding scholar and athlete, he completed Moss Point High School in 1952. In 1956, he graduated from Mississippi College, where he lettered in baseball and football. Following his studies at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, he preached in area churches.
Brother Bob lovingly pastored Stonewall Baptist Church in the Stonewall community for 50 years. As a bi-vocational minister, he taught school, successfully coached at New Hebron and Pinola, and farmed. Named Farmer of the Year for Simpson County in the 70’s, he proudly represented all Mississippi farmers on the floor of the US Senate as a part of the American Agricultural Movement’s lobbying efforts. In the later years of his ministry, he preached the gospel in Honduras and Nicaragua as a team member for Mississippi Baptist Medical and Dental International, making the arduous trip 16 times. Following his retirement, Bobby taught a Men’s Sunday School class at First Baptist Church in Mendenhall, preached when he was needed, and headed a Jail Ministry. He was especially honored to serve his community as a volunteer fireman.

During his lifetime he was an avid hunter, fisherman, and golfer, all of which he especially enjoyed with his son and grandson. Bobby was a loyal friend and a gifted storyteller, always ready with a witty joke and warm smile. He never met a stranger and never failed to share the way of salvation through Jesus Christ.

Bobby is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Cassie R. Jones and Vivian Stringer Jones; his brother, Ralph Lane Jones; his infant sister, Ann Judean Jones; and his brother-in-law, W. L. Smith, Jr.
