On Wednesday March 6, the Mississippi Federation of Republican Women held their annual Legislative Day at the Mississippi State Capitol. The day began with a breakfast and briefings from state office holders such as Lieutenant Governor Tate Reeves, Speaker of the House Phillip Gunn, and Agriculture and Commerce Commissioner Andy Gipson. Then, the group headed over to the to the Old Capitol Inn for a luncheon with Governor Phil Bryant and First Lady Deborah Bryant as the keynote speakers. The luncheon saw many legislators and other candidates dine with the group. Simpson County was well represented by the local chapter seen below. Pictured with the Simpson County crew is Agriculture and Commerce Commissioner Andy Gipson and District 77 Representative Price Wallace.
The afternoon ended with a visit to the Governor’s Mansion where a social was held and everyone could socialize. A tour was given of the Mansion and guests were even treated to see the Governor’s private residence that is normally not open to the public. The Republican Women are a very important asset to any Republican candidate seeking public office in Mississippi and they also have other issues they are involved with. Over the past year, they have been working with Speaker Phillip Gunn to author legislation to reduce human trafficking in Mississippi. The legislation has passed the House and is now sitting in the Senate. MageeNews.com will follow this legislation and others.
