The Scriptural passage for today is found in Acts, 2:38: “Peter replied, ‘Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.'” Amen! Peter is preaching and witnessing to listeners, telling them what they must do to receive the gift of salvation. They must first repent of their sins and ask Jesus to come into their lives; then, they will be filled with the Holy Spirit. The process has not changed. All new converts still must repent and become submissive to the will of God. We then become new creatures and throw off the former things which condemn and doom mankind to everlasting darkness. Only through the blood of Jesus Christ can we have hope of life eternal. “What can wash away my sins? Nothing but the blood of Jesus. What can make me whole again? Nothing but the blood of Jesus. Oh, precious is the flow that makes me white as snow. No other fount I know. Nothing but the blood of Jesus.” I love that old hymn.
Let’s not forget to move forward today with purpose and share love, joy, and kindness with others. God expects it of us, and the world will know we are Christians by our love. Amen!
