In 2002, I began writing about Cindy.  She and her husband were murdered by her stepson in their home.

James R. Williams III committed the double murder.  He was sentenced to two life sentences.  Now, the State of Mississippi is releasing James in May.  James has served less than 20 years on a double murder charge.

The family is requesting calls to legislature, letter writing, and sharing the information with others.

A Special Place, Cared for by Special People

Below is a copy of the article I wrote  February 9, 2017.  Many people from Simpson County continue to bring Cindy’s murder to light.  Her precious son Zeno Mangum has lived with this pain…and now this!

In 2002, I learned of a very tragic event:  Cindy Mangum Williams had been killed.  I knew Cindy all of her life.  She always had a smile on her face…she always had a positive word to say.  The tragic event altered many lives.  In the letter below is the story of how Cindy died.  Her only son Zeno has written this letter with a request for you and I to write letters.

James R Williams III was found guilty of two murders and was sentenced to two life terms.  Williams is being considered for parole…can you believe that!  Well, I can’t.

Make your voice heard…make Cindy’s voice heard…send a letter.

On December 28th 2002 Cindy Lassiter Williams and her husband James where brutally murdered in their south Jackson home. The murder was committed by Cindy’s stepson, James R. Williams III. While his father was sleeping on the couch, James began shooting multiple rounds at his father. Sometime during the shooting, my Mother Cindy came out to see what was going on and was shot in the face and killed. The bodies were put into large rubber maid containers and put into the back of a pickup truck and driven to Shilo Park in Brandon. Their bodies remained undiscovered there for a week. James III was convicted of killing his father James II and my mother Cindy and sentenced to 2 life sentences to run back to back. After having only served 13 years of 2 life sentences, he is being considered for parole. I am asking for all friends and family to please write a letter and oppose his release. There will be a hearing for anyone who would like to attend on Monday February 13th at 1:30 in Jackson. The address for the hearing and to send the letter is: 660 North State St. suite 100A, Jackson MS 39202.

I would greatly appreciate all your help in keeping this convicted murderer in jail. Thank you for your time and support regarding this matter.

James Williams

The Parole Board (who is appointed by the Gov.) should rethink this one. They are letting someone who committed a double murder and was sentenced to TWO life sentences out after 18 years ? Who would put their name and reputation on the line to support this action ?

He shouldn’t get parole. He killed two people in cold blood. He won’t change no matter how long he stays in prison. Releasing more criminals is not an option.

The fact that he’s even being considered for parole rather than death row is astounding to me. He murdered two innocent people, he shouldn’t get to enjoy what’s left of his life after taking someone else’s.
