Simpson County Board of Supervisors met Tuesday, July 5, 2022 for their regular scheduled bimonthly meeting. All members were present.

A Letter of Resolution of Appreciation for Randy Horan, retired road department area foreman, was read and presented. Horan’s family was presented.

Buddy Wolverton, County Engineer, reported the status of State-Aid & LSSBP as of June 30, 2022

  • LSBP-64(23)– Have request a final inspection.
  • SAP-64(64)– Grade, drain, base and surface for Star to Braxton. 19.6% completions with 7.69% Elapsed time. Contractor is clearing and grubbing to facilitate utility re-locations.
  • LSBP-64(24)– Bridge Replacement Shorter Road – Mailed P.S. & E. Assembly to State Aide on June 8, 2022. . Awaiting authorization to advertise.
  • SAP-64(65)– (Bridge Replacement) Dry Creek Road – Office review plans were mailed to State Aid on September 27, 2021. Awaiting wetland permit cost from the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers.
  • LSBP-64(25) – Bridge Replacement Peacock Road – P.S. & E. Plans were mailed to State Aid on June 21, 2022.
  • 2022 Simpson County Resurfacing Project – Roads 1A-5O – 52.52% Completed and 45.38% Elapsed time. Contractor has completed base repair, edge and leveling operations.

Sheriff Paul Mullins presented the Summit invoices for the jail at a cost of $18,598.33 that was approved by the board. The board voted to approve the inmate charges for cities within the county $30 daily and $40 for out of county.

Jamie Brewer Tax Assessor presented the following reports to be recorded in the minutes.

  • Tag surrender list for June
  • New values for motor home and motor vehicles
  • New growth report
  • Affidavit for real and personal roles
  • DOR recap to be file

A detailed discussion was held with the supply and demand of the chip rock needed for paving projects. The chip rock are hard to come by at present time and has delayed some planned paving projects.

The board is still discussing and researching a dog ordinance for the county.
