Ouida ‘Sue’ White, wife to Lawrence Ray White, of Mize, MS, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family on Wednesday, September 25, 2024.

Born in Covington County, Mississippi on September 9, 1935, Ouida was a lifelong professional educator, having taught thousands of students over her 47-year career. Known by her students as Mrs. White, her favorite name was always Aunt Sue. She was a lifelong member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Mize, MS.

Ouida Sue’s career as an educator began in 1958 at Mt. Olive High School. From 1964-1966 she taught Business at Harrison Central High School in Gulfport. From 1966 – 2005, she taught Business and Economics at MS Gulf Coast Community College – Jeff Davis Campus, where she served as Chairman of the Business Department and Dean of Academics until her retirement in 2005. After living many years in Biloxi, Ouida Sue and Ray retired to her childhood home in Mize, MS. Together, they enjoyed traveling, photography, genealogy, and collecting antiques.

Ouida Sue is survived by Lawrence Ray White of Mize, MS, her loving husband of 57 years, her younger brother, Hal Durwood Howell of Homewood, MS, nieces Donna Howell Munro Meeks (Joe), Karen Howell Welch (Steve), Sharon Kaye Robbins (Eric), Dr. Judith Lynn Bradley, Dr. Scott Thomas Bradley (Anne-Russell), and numerous great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Randall Clarence Howell and Ulma Harvey Howell, and her brother Donald Clark Howell.

A visitation will be held Saturday, September 28,10 am – 12 pm, at Oak Grove Baptist Church, 507 Smith County Road, Mize, MS, with the funeral service at 12 pm performed by Pastor John Barnes. Burial to follow. Music will be performed by Violinist Hugh Cannon. Pall Bearers will be Brian Evans, Chase Munro, Conrad Pfeiffer, Eric Robbins, Matthew Robbins, Chris Stamps, Jake Sullivan, Joe Meeks (honorary), Josh Sullivan (honorary), and Coty Welch (honorary).

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation or the American Cancer Society.
