On January 12, 2023 around 12:15 P.M., the Magee Police Department received a 911 call concerning a house fire at 802 4th Street SE. After officers arrived on the scene, the police spoke with several people in the area and investigated the house after the fire was extinguished. Emergency personal determined the fire was intentionally set.
Officers then began a search looking for Tommy Lee Kemp. Officers later located Tommy Kemp at a gas station in Magee. Kemp was returned to the Magee Police Department where he was interviewed where he later confessed to purposely setting the house on fire.
Officers later learned that Kayla Putnam was involved and was charged with Conspiracy to Commit a Crime and Arson in the 1st degree.
Putnam & Kemp have been moved to the Simpson County Jail.
