SCA Lady Cougar Softball team had a great softball season. Practices started first week of June with hitting, batting and fielding techniques under the coaching staff of Head Coach Adam Evans, Assist. Coach Lacye Evans, and Assist. Coach Jeff Wedgeworth. The team consisted of 23 girls from 7th grade through 12th grade. The girls dedicated their time and hard work and brought the title of District Champions to Simpson Academy. MAIS State tournament started this past Saturday and the SCA Lady Cougars chose to honor their efforts and time to Copiah Academy. Copiah Academy suffered the loss of an outstanding athlete which prompted the softball team to withdraw from the State tournament. Ironically the funeral for their fellow athlete was scheduled the same exact time as the team’s first softball game.
The SCA Lady Cougars fell short in the MAIS State tournament to bring their season to a close.
SCA Lady Cougars only has one Senior not returning to the team next year, Molly Shotts. Molly has been the teams Varsity catcher for the past three years pairing up with the teams two pitchers, Bailey Sartin and Morgan Griffith. A tremendous amount of time goes into gaining the confidence between a catcher and a pitcher and Molly will be missed.
As the SCA Lady Cougars season comes to an end, words can not express how proud of these girls for playing the sport that they love and dedicating themselves to working hard and claiming the victory of District Champs!
