********* Suspect has been apprehended at a residence in Simpson County and is being held for questioning. Smith was arrested around 6 PM
On Thursday, March 15, 2018 at approximately 0645 hours the Magee Police Department responded to 206 2nd Ave SW (The McAlpin House) in response to a 911 call. Officers arrived on scene and determined that two females had been stabbed. One of the victims was Gloria Lucas, the homeowner. The second victim was Debra McCollum, Lucas’ sister. Both victims were transported for care via AMR to Magee General Hospital ER. Lucas was treated and released from Magee General Hospital. McCollum was airlifted to UMC in Jackson where she is reportedly in stable condition.
The suspect has been identified as Tony Lee Smith (DOB 12/03/1966). Smith is a former employee of Gloria Lucas. A possible vehicle has also been determined. There are currently numerous agencies assisting the Magee Police Department to determine the precise location of Smith, as he left the scene of the crime after the assaults took place. Magee Police Department currently has two (2) warrants for Attempted Murder and one (1) warrant for Breaking and Entering on Smith due to this case.
