Standoff in Mendenhall Ends Peacefully

According to reports, around 5:30pm Monday, May 2nd, Simpson County deputies went to serve a warrant to 23year old, Joseph McGovern, located on Emmit Brown Road in Mendenhall.  McGovern is wanted on a felony aggravated assault charge on a police officer.  SWAT team, MHP, Bureau of Investigations Simpson County Sheriff Office are on the scene.  Neighbors are not allowed to go to their homes.  Media as well as onlookers are being held back for safety from the area.  Tear gas is being used to persuade McGovern, armed with weapons, out of his home.

 

UPDATE:   Around 10:15pm, McGovern came out of the home and is now in the custody of the Simpson County Sheriff Office.  The Standoff ends peacefully with no injuries.
