Rev.Paul Edward Padgett, Sr., “Brother Paul”, age 88, of Magee MS, was carried on God’s grace and mercy to his eternal home yesterday. Brother Paul was born on March 7, 1931 in Jones County, Laurel, MS.

Visitation will be Thursday October 3,2019 5:00pm till 7:00pm at Colonial Chapel Magee and Friday October 4,2019 1:00pm till 2:00pm at First Baptist Church Magee. Funeral service will be October 4, 2019 at 2:00pm at First Baptist Church Magee with burial in Goodwater Baptist Church Cemetery.

Brother Paul was a graduate of Jones County Jr. College and the University of Southern MS, where he completed his Bachelor of Science Degree specializing in Coaching and Athletics. While at Jones County JR. College he played baseball for JCJC. He also was a cheerleader for USM and played third base for the USM Eagles Baseball Team. The story that has followed him is that he was very good and was chosen to play for the Minor Leagues but knew this was not the path God had called him to.   He briefly coached in Bay Springs, MS when he felt God calling him into full time Christian service.  He then attended New Orleans Baptist Seminary and completed his Masters Degree in Music Ministry. Brother Paul served as Minister of Music and Education at First Baptist Church, Picayune, MS until God called him to First Baptist Church, Magee MS in 1969.  He then served faithfully at FBC, Magee as Minister of Music and Education/Associate to the Pastor.  He was later Director of FBC Magee’s Community Outreach Program and Social Ministries, and was over Senior Ministries as well.   In 1998, he retired from his service at FBC, Magee, but only for a short while.  Brother Paul was then called by FBC, Mt Olive, MS to serve as their Minister of Music part time, which he faithfully did until he retired a second time in 2015.

Brother Paul lived his retirement as he lived his life, serving his Lord and Savior by serving others, every opportunity he was given.  He continued his leadership and Godly example in the lives of his five grandsons and two great grandsons, each one coming to a saving knowledge of Christ through their example, “Pap”.  Whether fishing, swimming, or growing and eating watermelons, they were always outside with their Pap having fun, making a lifetime of memories.  Saturdays were “college football game day” in the Fall, and he loved following his Golden Eagles. Sundays were always his day of worship and he attended faithfully before his health declined.  His Sundays then still began with David Jeremiah and Charles Stanley on television; and, watching The Gaither broadcast of his beloved songs of hymns and praise.

He was preceded in death by 14 siblings, as he was the fifteenth child and last; mother and father, Dennis and Erma Padgett; and, daughter, Paula Louise Padgett Meadows.  Brother Paul will be remembered with love by his teen sweetheart and dedicated wife for sixty-eight years, Louise, “Lou Lou”, “Ma Maw”, Magee; daughter Pam Padgett, Magee; Paul Padgett, Jr. (Beverly), Hattiesburg, MS; Patty Padgett Poston, (David), Broken Arrow, OK; Grandsons:  Michael Paul Meadows (Jennifer), Mize, MS; Evan Handley, (Brittney), Louisville, KY; Seth Handley, Edmond, OK; Corey Onder, Broken Arrow, OK; Jared Padgett, Hattiesburg, MS; Jacob Padgett, Magee MS; Great grandsons:  Kannon and Kade Meadows, Mize, MS.

Brother Paul will be forever remembered as a man who loved the Lord, and loved people, whatever their walk in life. He was quick to consistently give praise and glory to the Lord in every accomplishment,  and was uneasy if praise or appreciation was given to him.  His purpose was for others to see Jesus in him, and come to accept Jesus as their Lord and Saviour.
