Patsy Moore Veazey, 61, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 17, 2024, at her home in D’Lo.
She was born in Rankin County, Mississippi, on December 31, 1962, to Erbie Dee Moore and Gertie Moore Blackmon.
The family will receive friends at Tutor Funeral Home in Mendenhall on Saturday, October 19, 2024, beginning at 11:00 am. A celebration of life will begin at 1:00 pm, with burial at the DLo Community Cemetery. Food may be taken to DLo Methodist Church for a meal for family and friends after the service.
She was preceded in death by her parents Erbie Dee Moore and Gertie Moore Blackmon. She is also preceded in death by her granddaughter, Bentlee Pearl Brown, and a host of extended family members.
She is survived by her loving husband John Veazey, and daughter Haley (Tyler) Brown; grandsons Brodee, Brady, and Cody Burnham; brother Eddie (Angie) Moore, with nephews Hayden, Landon, and Tanner Moore; sister Anita (James) Lovett with nieces Heather Lovett, Makayla Plum and nephew AJ Plum.
Growing up, she spent time helping her family with their meat processing business in Pearl, following her parents to their infamous bluegrass festivals, and spending time “on the hill” in Carthage.
Patsy began her career as a beautician. When she and John moved to DLo to start their family, she opened her own shop, A Cut Above. This led her to form lifelong friendships with many from the area. They’d joke, saying, “That Pearl girl fits right in down here.”
She went on to become a nurse in the late 90’s. She worked at Baptist Hospital and Hospice Ministries for a short while. She spent most of her nursing career as Director of Nursing at Millcreek. She ended her career at Simpson General Hospital as a nurse in one of their outpatient clinics for the mentally impaired. She was a compassionate nurse and leader. During her tenure as a nurse, she touched not only the lives of her patients but also the lives of her coworkers.
What she held most dearly was her family and friends. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and the best Mamaw anyone could ask for. If you were her friend, you knew she loved you. She enjoyed entertaining family and friends in her home. She enjoyed the deer hunt. She was quite the cook in the kitchen and a karaoke Queen when the right song came on. If you visited, you never left hungry without a neck hug. She will be missed by all who knew her.
