Obituary for Patsy Buffington Ates

Patsy (Buffington) Ates, 85, a lifelong resident of Magee, Mississippi was called home to her heavenly father on April 6 following injuries received in a car accident. Patsy was born July 30, 1935, to Carlos and Ena (Mack) Buffington. She graduated from Magee High School and attended the University of Southern Mississippi. She was employed by Roach Cabinet Shop for 36 years before her retirement in 2000.
Patsy was a devoted, lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Magee and a member of the senior choir. She found her joy in the people around her, including family, friends, and the entire Magee community. Nothing made her happier than spending time with those she loved and traveling. She loved cooking, gardening, keeping up with friends on FaceBook, and decorating every room of her house each Christmas. Her close circle of friends, the Golden Girls, whom she loved dearly, made her post-retirement years among the best of her life. We will miss her kind, loving soul each and every day. The world would be a much better place with more Patsys in it.
Patsy was preceded in death by her parents, Brother Clyne Buffington, sister-in-law Beth Buffington, and grandson Dustin Cantrell. Left to cherish her memory are sister Carol (Ken) Ingram of Memphis; daughters Lynn Duncan of Magee, Vicki (John Barron) Lamport of Tulsa, and Susan (Gary) Cantrell of Raleigh, NC; grandchildren Brett (Dana) Duncan, Kelli (Matt) Rath, Nick (Jennifer) Morgan, and Brittney (Adam) Hall; twelve great grandchildren; her “honorary” children Lorie, Cheri, and Cliff; and a large, beloved extended family.
Visitation will be Thursday, April 7, 5-7 pm at Tutor Funeral Home in Magee and services will be held Friday at 10 am at First Baptist Church of Magee. Memorials in her honor may be made to the First Baptist Church of Magee, Silver Tone Ministry, PO Box 266, Magee, MS 39111.
“Jesus said unto her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life; he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live. And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die.’”
John 11: 25-26
