Pat Summitt, former head coach for the Tennessee Volunteers until 2011, has lost her battle with Alzheimer’s at the age of 64.
Summit faced her toughest opponent and it was not one of the basketball court. It was Alzheimer’s. But, like any opponent she faced her disease with fierce and determination.
Pat coached women’s basketball for the Tennessee Volunteers a total of 38 years. During this time she won eight national titles and 1, 098 games. This is the most games won by any division 1 coach male or female. During this time she made 31 consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances.
Pat was loved by many and will be missed by all.
