Parklane takes down Simpson

This past Friday night Simpson Academy hosted Parklane in their season opener. The Cougars jumped out in front 6-0, but Parklane would come back to take a 14-12 halftime lead. The second half was all Parklane as they added two touchdowns to take a 28-12 victory. Leading the Cougars offensively were Dylan Hallman with 17 rushes for 184 yards and two touchdowns, Hunter Cline with 2 receptions for 16 yards, and Ethan Flynt completed 3 passes for 26 yards. The Cougars were led defensively by Cole Weeks who was in on 8 tackles, Michael Winstead in on 6 tackles and forced a fumble, and Corbin Hosey in on 6 tackles. Cook Weathersby was credited with a sack, forced a fumble and a fumble recovery, and Bryce Caughman had a fumble recovery. In team stats Simpson had 311 yards of total offense, 285 yards rushing, 26 yards passing, and picked up 12 first downs. Parklane had 311 yards of total offense, 243 yards rushing, 68 yards passing, and picked up 19 first downs.

In Junior High action on Thursday the 7th and 8th grade won 14-0 over Brookhaven and the Junior High lost 35-6. The Cougars will travel to Leake Academy in Madden this Friday with kickoff set for 7:00 p.m. This is the 25th time that the Rebels and Cougars have faced each other with the Cougars holding a 19-5 series advantage and have won the last nine matchups. The Cougars took last year’s matchup by a score of 32-23. The Junior High Cougars will have their home opener Thursday vs Jackson Academy with the 7th and 8th grade game at 5:30 p.m. and the Junior High game at 6:45 p.m.
