Friends:
At last Monday’s school board meeting we were presented an overview of a proposed budget for FY 2027. The administration is projecting a budget to include an increase in local taxes of $2,066,527. The worksheet we were given proposes a request to the levying authority (BOS) of $13,408, 772. Last year the BOS funded the schools $11,342,245, which was an increase from 2024 of $336,227. The administration presented an alternate tax request with an additional 4%.
I told the administration and the rest of the board I would oppose any budget that would require any tax increase or further borrowing. If you don’t want your taxes raised you might want to call your school board rep
I am attaching copies of the ad valorem tax increase worksheets we were given, for your review.
I respectfully request you not put this on social media, but you may share any other way you choose. This is all public information, I just don’t want this on FB, etc. for right now.
I remain committed to my pledge to oppose any tax increases
By the way, Smith County School District has a total operating budget for FY 2026 of $33,478,325 as opposed to Simpson’s 2026 budget of about $42,000,000. Smith County’s school tax is 38.42 mills and Simpson’s is 47.95. Smith County schools are rated B and Simpson’s is barely a C.
I am trying- please continue to pray for me.
Sincerely,
Thomas Ray Floyd
